EDIE IRONS
A little bit about me:
I was president of the East Bay Young Democrats in 2006 and 2007. I was elected to the steering committee for the 14th AD in 2004, and served as Vice President of Membership for the C lifornia Young Democrats, and as Karen Weinstein’s alternate on the County Committee. I have worked as a fundraiser for the Democratic National Committee, as a research intern for the Alameda Central Labor Council, and volunteered as a fundraiser and event planner for the League of Young Voters. For the past three years my day job has been at The Institute for College Access & Success, a nonprofit dedicated to improving college access and affordability.

The Central Committee is the Alameda County Democratic Party, responsible for endorsing local candidates for office, running campaign headquarters, and organizing Democrats throughout the county. Alameda County is the most Democratic county in California – we should be a power player in statewide races. Better organization here could make the difference to elect a Democrat as governor in 2010 and keep Barbara Boxer in the Senate (Schwarzenegger is likely to run against her). To do this, the Grassroots Progressives slate will:
- Work to increase voter registration and turnout
- Organize neighborhood leaders at the precinct level
- Recruit, train, and support qualified progressive candidates for local office
We will also push the Democratic Party and elected officials to:
- End the occupation of Iraq
- Provide affordable health care for all Californians
- Address the climate crisis
- Defend a woman’s right to choose
- Support campaign finance reform
- Ensure a living wage and the right to organize
- Make sure every vote is counted
It’s time for some new energy in the Democratic Party! I’d be honored to have your support.
